The present big health problem of swine flu—or as the World Health Organization wants it called, A/H1N1 influenza—presents a very advantageous window of opportunity for local hog raisers, according to a nongovernment development organization on Saturday. The Foundation for a Sustainable Society (FSSI) at the Kapihan sa Cypress forum at Treehouse restaurant in Quezon City said local hog products should now be more aggressively promoted. When the largest corporations began taking about the green agenda by introducing eco-friendlier products or by reducing their operations’ environmental impact, many marked this as a victory in the environmental front.There is, however, a diverse segment of economic drivers called micro, small and medium enterprises [MSMEs] who have an innate vision for improving the plight of their local economies but are also generators of environmental wastes affecting ecological issues such as climate change, hazards, water availability, among others. “There’s a powerful segment that we need to collaborate with if we are to significantly reduce the negative environmental impacts from business activities.” says Foundation for a Sustainable Society (FSSi) Executive Director Emma Lim-Sandrino. FSCS ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS WITHIN FIRST QUARTER |

The Fund for Sustainable Civil Society (FSCS) Grants Facility has began to accept proposals for the year 2009.until the first quarter only (January to March) and will be processing the qualified applications on the second quarter or from April to June. The FSCS Grants Facility provides grants mainly to help meet the needs of civil society organizations (CSOs) that are actively concerned with poverty reduction and socio-economic justice promotion for the poor and marginalized sectors. |

First time viewers of a four-minute infomercial expressed support for green, fair. and locally-made products. The infomercial entitled, “Let’s Changed the World” was produced by FSSI to raise consumers’ awareness and promote the triple bottomline agenda as a standard for choosing products. |
